LITHOGRAPHY :
Invented by Aloys Senefelder in 1796 in Germany, the lithography is a printing process which allows creation and the reproduction of several exemplaries of a plan executed with ink or the pencil on a limestone. After a chemical preparation, the fat contained in ink or the pencil (drawing) is fixed on the stone. This technique is more adapted to the pictures printing rather than text. The lithography was introduced in France largely by Louis-François Lejeune who discovered it in the workshop of Senefelder at the time of wars of the Empire. |

Engraver : Dambourgez -- Lithograph "The colored plate represents a massive silver cup, which marks the progress of art under the Sassanid kings. This cup, (which was presented by the Duc de Luynes to the Cabinet de France, where it may be compared with that of Chosroes), of cast and chased silver, represents in bas-relief a king of Persia hunting. The monarch, whose horse is going at full speed, is discharging an arrow; before him are fleeing two wild board an a pig,a buffalo, an axis, and an antelope. Many victims of the royal hunter are stretched upon the ground. His costume is very rich; a tiara is upon his head, precious stones adorn his ears, his neck, and his double girdle; the tunic and the trousers, are embroidered, as also the horse's harness, which, like the bow, is decorated with two floating streamers
